With Summer heating up and pollen and dust filling the air, you may be asking yourself, “How should I keep my storage building clean?” Use this guide to clean your storage building, and keep it looking like new!
1. Hose off or Power Wash Siding
At Bunce Buildings we build storage buildings with vinyl, metal, fir and LP Smart Siding. If your building is showing the nastiness that comes with spending every day outside, it’s time to give it a good wash. For vinyl buildings you can use a power washer to blast away the caked-on dirt and grime. If you have a painted fir or smart siding building, or even a metal building, you will want to be a little more careful and use a garden hose. No matter what you use to spray your building down, make sure you stand back a bit to limit the pressure – and make sure you don’t accidentally blast a hole in your siding. Don’t forget to rinse away any debris that may be on the roof of your building, to better prevent rust.
2. Scrub off Any Remaining Dirt (if needed)
If you still have a couple areas where the dirt survived the water onslaught, then you will need to use a little elbow grease to get rid of those spots that still remain. You can mix up a cleaning solution using ordinary dish soap and water. Just soak a rag in your cleaning solution and scrub away at any remaining spots of dirt and grime.
3. Wash the Windows by Hand
While a power washer may be your favorite cleaning tool, you are better off cleaning the windows by hand to avoid breaking the glass under the pressure of your power washer. Be sure to wash your glass windows both inside and outside to keep your windows looking clear and clean.
4. Sweep It Out
If you keep your lawn and garden equipment in your Bunce Building like many of our customers, then you probably have some grass clippings and dirt in your building. Sweeping out the interior of your storage building is a great way to clean up. It will also help eliminate any odors associated with the outdoors.
5. Eliminate Mildew with Vinegar
Sometimes even after spraying and scrubbing your storage building, mold and mildew can begin to grow on your shed. The best way to clean these spots away is to use the acidic power of vinegar. Soak a couple old rags in white vinegar and scrub the mold and mildew until nothing remains.
